Join us for an unforgettable evening of film, conversation and live music
Barbican Centre Cinema 1
Join us for an unforgettable evening of film, conversation and live music with one of the greatest violinists of our age. Daniel Hope: The Sound of Life is a documentary about a musician that also tells his own and his family’s story – one of flight and exile, of identity and history. It is pitch-perfect storytelling for professional and aspiring musicians and classical music lovers everywhere. Daniel’s love of music and his deep respect, and appreciation of, the role of music in helping us understand the human condition shines through. With rare archival footage of Daniel and Yehudi Menuhin including Daniel’s performance of Ravel’s Kaddish to Yehudi five days before his death helps us understand both his journey and also brings us all closer to the great musicians of our age. The sombre reflections from the Kaddish are brilliantly counterpointed by the exuberance of the triumphant and critically acclaimed performance of Max Richter’s Vivaldi Recomposed in South Korea. We have specifically chosen the cinema at the Barbican Centre as the venue for the UK Premiere. The acoustics of the space are guaranteed to deliver an unforgettable movie experience. Daniel Hope will be present for a Q&A after the film and will perform Méditation from Thaïs by French composer Jules Massenet. He will be accompanied by an octet formed from the student body of the Royal Academy of Music. This will be an unforgettable music experience. Event will be held at the Barbican Centre Cinema 1 Doors open at 8.30pm and Film begins at 8.45pm. There will be no advertisements so please ensure you arrive on time
